In loving memory & At the Heart of This Community

As one of three Mountain Mentors matriarchs and our first Director of Social Media & Communications, Anitra guided us into community, connecting the work we do with the people who we do it for. For years, she enthusiastically celebrated and honoured the countless successes and growth of program participants. As a light in this community, we couldn't help but be drawn towards her. Anitra made so many of us feel we belonged in the outdoors and to have her on the receiving end of a message, photo share, or question was to be wrapped in her warm, supportive, kind, and strong energy.

Anitra was often be seen behind the lens and heard as the voice of our public posts. She was always doing her thing: seeing the greatness and depth of others, bringing it out, and sharing it with the rest of the world. As a community, we witnessed time and time again how Anitra gave her time, energy, heart, and soul to elevating the greatness that exists in others.

Over the years, a lot in the Mountain Mentors community has grown and evolved. But the foundation that Anitra helped shape is what continues to hold up the experiences of hundreds of people every year. There are no words to describe the vastness of what Anitra contributed and continues to contribute to this community. We are all better for it and will always feel it, live steadfastly into it, and forever hold it dearly in our hearts.

The Anitra Paris Scholarship & Campership Funds

Anitra surrounded by members of the winter 2018/2019 mentorship cohort during the annual Wendy Thompson hut trip.

Anitra’s care for those who spend their time in the outdoors is matched by her care of, love for, and devotion to the outdoors itself. The Anitra Paris Scholarship & Campership Funds have been set up to honour Anitra’s incredible legacy and exist as a continuation and extension of the impact she had on the world. Mountain Mentors will be collecting donations in the interim until the Anitra Paris Scholarship & Campership Funds are established with a qualified donee. As a legally recognized non-profit society in Canada, Mountain Mentors can accept donations but is not able to issue a tax receipt. If you would like a tax receipt for your gift, please wait to donate until the long-term fund is established and fill out the pledge form here.

You will be contacted in the future to complete your donation when the long-term fund is established. If instead you would prefer to donate immediately to the interim fund and you do not require a tax receipt for your gift, please donate using the button below.
