We wanted to share with you an amazing article written by Rain Scott. We have been fortunate enough to have Rain as a mentor in our summer program. Rain is an incredible mentor and gives a lot of their spare time to knowledge sharing throughout the community. Rain uses they/them pronouns and is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in and out of the mountains.

Rain recently posted an article to their blog, and it blew us away! It was so full of things that every single person who adventures into the mountains should know.

I am sure a lot of people reading this probably think ‘I welcome everyone in the outdoors, of course I'm inclusive’ but I guarantee you this article will give you at least one thing to think about from a new angle! For example - have you ever thought about how bathroom situations in the outdoors can be uncomfortable? And no, we don’t mean the usual situation of finding a place to pee and then packing out your toilet paper. These situations can create a ton of anxiety and stress for trans folks. Imagine how difficult it is for a trans person to manage a situation where everything thinks you stand to pee, but you need to squat!

As this is Rain’s work, we decided to link this blog post to their blog to ensure the article is shared as it was intended.

Enjoy!
